Our Story

Grand County Mortuary and Crematory is located in the building that was formally Schoenfled Mortuary in Hot Sulphur Springs.  We have completed a complete remodel and added a crematory on site to serve our families. Our visitation room has been tastefully decorated to ensure comfort and serenity at the time of a loss. Designed to be flexible in their use, our visitation room can accommodate everything from a traditional period of visitation - to a more contemporary memorial service- to a private family service.

Our Chapel

Although our chapel is not intended to compete against the reverence and respect of the church, it has been tastefully designed as an option for those who do not wish a formal church setting. Conveniently located within the funeral home, it provides a dignified setting for family, friends and the community to gather together and pay tribute to the deceased.  Our chapel can seat around 80 people.

Our reception area can provide a convenient setting for a time of fellowship after the funeral service or visitation period.

Mark is a 3rd generation Funeral Director and is licensed as an Embalmer and Funeral Director.  Mark grew up living at the family funeral home in Tennessee and remembers playing "hide and seek" among the caskets and even roller skating in the chapel as a young boy.  His lifetime of experience has given him a perspective few have realized when it comes to supporting a family during the death of their loved one.
Mark says he is striving to make the Grand County Mortuary and Crematory feel as much like a home setting as possible for grieving clients.  His grandparents started the family business in Tennessee by opening the comfort of their home to families in need of funeral services, and it is his hope that he can continue the service he has offered over the past 30 years to the community of Grand County.

Mark is married to Tina and they have 3 children, Raegan and her husband David along with their 2 children Elijah and Hannah, Zachary and his wife Mallory along with their daughter Kennedy and Lauren and her husband Dan along with their daughter Tatum and son Sawyer.  Everywhere you go in Grand County you will see people with their pets...Mark is no different!  Most likely while you visit the Mortuary you will meet Little Digger too.
